Creating Your Oral Appliances With 3D Imaging Technology

How do we design and create custom appliances to correct misalignment or jaw joint issues like TMJ disorder? How can our team design and create dentures and prosthetics that fit comfortably and address your missing teeth? In today’s blog, your North Hollywood, CA, dentist looks at how iTero® 3D imaging technology can help improve your smile’s health and beauty.

How Does iTero® Work?

The iTero® system involves the dentist using a tiny camera the end of a thin wand to quickly and comfortably take a series of photographs of your teeth, gums, and oral structures. We then combine these images to create a detailed 3D model of your entire smile. The model allows the dentist to design appliances and restorations to return your smile to optimal health, function, and beauty. These act as digital impressions, meaning we no longer need you to bite down on a mold filled with sticky and poor-tasting material. The process is quick, efficient, and offers impressions that are significantly more accurate and precise.

Invisalign® Aligners

If you have minor or severe misalignment, then our team could use this 3D imaging system to design and create a series of plastic aligners, which are worn for about two weeks each over the course of a year. They fit comfortably and reposition the placement of your teeth to address poor alignment. We can offer this treatment option for teens and adults alike. Remember, correcting misalignment improves not just your smile beauty, but your overall oral health as well!

TMJ Appliances and Missing Tooth Replacement

TMJ disorder develops when the jaw joints undergo excessive strain, the stress causing trouble opening and closing your mouth. Symptoms range from headaches and jaw pain to a popping or clicking in the jaw and bruxism (teeth grinding). An oral appliance, which looks and fits like a mouthguard, can be used to ease tension on the jaw and avoid uncomfortable symptoms. With digital technology, we can create these appliances, which also help treat bruxism and even sleep apnea. If you have one or more missing teeth, then we can use the iTero® system to help create bridges, full and partial dentures, and even aid in the placement of dental implants, returning you smile to full function and health. If you have any questions about the technologies we use in our office, or if you would like to schedule a checkup and cleaning before the year ends, then contact our team today.
