Preventive And Cosmetic Treatment With Botox

When seeking facial rejuvenation treatments, you may not think to talk to your dentist. However, we proudly offer our North Hollywood, CA, patients access to Botox and dermal fillers, which not only improve facial esthetics, but can help treat common oral health issues, such as TMJ disorder and bruxism.

Botox and Dermal Fillers

Wrinkles and lines form when we smile and frown, as this contracts muscles and causes skin to lose elasticity over time. However, by administering Botox or Dysport, specialized versions of the neurotoxin botulinum, we block nerve signals and prevent muscle contractions. This enables our skin to become more relaxed, causing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, brow, and in the forehead to vanish in the following hours and days. The procedure takes 15 minutes to administer and the results last several months. We can reapply during your next checkup and cleaning visit.

Dermal fillers can be used to address other signs of aging, especially those caused by the impact of aging on the collagen and elastin fibers in our face. As we age, we may see lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, lips, and the nasolabial folds. Stress, alcohol, excessive sun exposure, and other factors can worsen the appearance of these wrinkles. However, using a dermal filler, a hyaluronic acid-based filler, we can fill the areas and enable them to appear full and free of lines and signs of aging. Our team can augment the lips, offer a smile lift without surgery, and smooth lines across the face. Administering them takes about 30 minutes and the results last about six to eight months.

For patients anxious about either of these options, we can administer nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. You enter a calm and relaxed state, with little to no memory of the procedure afterward. The effects of the sedation wear off almost immediately, so you can drive yourself home or return to work.

Treating Bruxism and TMJ Disorder

TMJ disorder develops when serious pressure is placed on the jaw joints, leading to difficulties opening and closing the mouth. Bruxism can be caused by stress and strain as well, leading to chronic teeth grinding. These disorders have been linked to jaw pain, headaches, and damaged smiles. Fortunately, we can use these facial esthetic treatments to actually relax the jaw joints and facial muscles, limiting pressure and reducing painful symptoms.
