A Custom Mouthguard Made With Digital Technology

If you play sports, then you need a mouthguard. Whether you’re a child or an adult, these preventive devices help safeguard smiles against chips and cracks, and even prevent knocked-out teeth. In order to offer optimal protection and a comfortable fit, your North Hollywood, CA, dentist may create a custom-made model using digital technology.

Designing Your Guard

While a boil-and-bite option helps, these one-size-fits-all options you purchase at a sporting goods store don’t provide the same level of protection as a custom-made option. To create your oral appliance, we will begin by using digital x-rays and 3D imaging technology to take detailed images and measurements of your smile. We gather these images quickly and comfortably, and use them to craft a 3D model of your smile. We then design and create the mouthguard. You won’t need to bite down on a mold filled with sticky material for several minutes, and the images offer greater precision and accuracy.

The Benefits of Use

The mouthguard will fit comfortably and provide greater protection for your teeth, limiting the risk of a tooth becoming cracked or chipped should you sustain an injury. In addition, they help lower the chances of a tooth becoming knocked-out completely. So whether you play football or tennis, or box or perform martial arts, this can provide a secure and dependable method of protecting your smile from injury!

Don’t Ignore Damaged Teeth

What should you do if you damage a tooth? If you chip a tooth, try to recover any missing pieces, and then see us as soon as possible. We may be able to repair the tooth in one visit with dental bonding. If you sustain injury but don’t notice any obvious damage, consider scheduling a checkup anyway, as fractures could be practically invisible. Damage exposes the inner dentin to harmful bacteria and increases the risk of cavities! If you knock out a tooth, then pick the tooth up by the crown (visible portion) and never touch the root. Rinse the tooth with running water to remove dirt, but try not to remove any tissue. Place the tooth in a glass of milk or salt water and bring it with you to the office. You can also place it back into the socket and bite down gently to hold it in place until you can see us.
