How Our Whitening Treatments Brighten Your Smile

If you have embarrassing yellow and brown discoloration on your teeth, then you should consider cosmetic dentistry to address these stains. With our in-office and at-home professional teeth whitening restorations, we can often brighten smiles by as many as eight shades. In today’s blog, your North Hollywood, CA, dentist talks about our teeth whitening treatments.

Assessing the State of Your Discoloration

First, we will start with an initial consultation. We will talk about your oral hygiene habits and assess the factors behind your teeth stains. From there, we can decide on the best course of treatment to brighten your smile. Discoloration could be caused by food and drinks high in sugar and starch, which creates plaque buildup that makes stains more visible. If you consume drinks with dark pigments, like coffee, soda, red wine, and tea, this could discolor your smile too. Other factors include the use of tobacco products, such as cigarettes. Knowing the causes of your staining could allow you to make positive changes to your oral hygiene routine, so you can keep them brighter for longer periods.

In-Office and At-Home Teeth Whitening

We have two different options that can brighten smiles by multiple shades. If you need results quickly, such as before a job interview or first date, we have an in-office one that provides results in as little as one to two hours. Our team simply applies a protective coating to your lips and gums and places a powerful bleaching gel onto the teeth, activating it with a light. This brightens the smile by several shades. We also have an at-home option that can handle more severe stains and limit the risk of tooth sensitivity afterward. You receive a set of custom trays that you fill with a powerful bleaching gel and wear daily for a set amount of time., After a week to ten days, your smile could be several shades brighter. You then keep the trays and any remaining gel for touch-ups in the months to come.

Masking Permanent Discoloration

What about permanent teeth stains? Also known as intrinsic staining, these form beneath the enamel and can be difficult to remove with teeth whitening. But with dental bonding and porcelain veneers, we have options that mask them and instantly brighter your smile. These same treatments can also address issues with the shade of the teeth at the same time. If you have any questions about our approach to teeth whitening, then contact our team today to learn more.
